Bankhead National Forest is hosting a grand opening of the Payne Demonstration Area, an outdoor classroom highlighting the restoration of the shortleaf pine woodland ecosystem.
Everyone is welcome to the grand opening - students, teachers, partners, neighbors, families, etc! Come one come all! The Payne Demonstration Area is a beautiful area to study nature and a working forest. At the grand opening we will learn about forest management including planting shortleaf pine, timber harvesting, prescribed burning, and wildlife management. We will also hear from Bankhead's Archaeologist Jean Allan and WildSouth's Mark Kolinski about Bankhead's unique canyons and cultural resources. See the link below for more information or call the District Office at 205-489-5111. Large groups should pre-register with Jeremy McDonald at the District Office. http://www.aces.edu/~henshmd/temp/PaynedemoGrandOpeningflyer.pdf
