The Winston County Natural Resources Council toured Unique Wood in Houston at part of the regular meeting held on Thursday, November 16. Mr. Ellis Wade, Jr., owner of the family business, hosted the tour of this woodworking business. Their specialty is treating wood using a proprietary process that creates a rustic look. After processing, it is used to create furniture and panels, much of which is used in the manufactured housing industry. Members attending the tour included Rick Moody, Lauranne James, Mike Henshaw, Johnna Franks, Jimmy Madison, John Creed, Carl Godsey, Bob Wilder, Casey Hammack, Kerri Roberts, and Jim Hughes.
After the tour, the council had a brief meeting. We discussed a possible landowner tour of a shortleaf planting on a privately owned forestland. Potential officers for vacant positions were discussed, but no action taken at this time.
After lunch at Talk of the Town, several members toured the Houston log jail.
